- INSTALLATION GUIDE: Step 1: Disconnect the negative battery cable. Step 2: Take off the interior door panel to access the back of the door handle from inside the door. Step 3: Disconnect the rod linkage from the back of the old handle — press the retaining clip to release the rod. Step 4: Take out the mounting bolts (typically 2) holding the handle to the door skin. Step 5: Pull the old handle out from the exterior side of the door. Step 6: Insert the replacement handle into the door opening from the outside. Step 7: Secure with the mounting bolts.
