Cascara sagrada. Cascara sagrada means sacred bark and comes from the bark of a tree in northwestern America. It is one of the most traditional herbs used for the relief of occasional constipation.* This tree or shrub is also called Frangula purshiana, and belongs to the Rhamnaceae family. Turkey rhubarb root. Turkey rhubarb root helps support regularity.* It is in the Polygonaceae family. The leaves of the rhubarb plant are large, triangular, and inedible, while the stalks are edible. Ginger. Ginger supports comfortable digestion.* Ginger is a flowering plant in the Zingiberaceae family, closely related to cardamom and turmeric. Blessed thistle. Blessed thistle is a traditional bitter. Cnicus benedictus is another name for blessed thistle, a flowering plant native to the Mediterranean region. Because it is not an everyday supplement, one tube goes a long way. Is cascara sagrada safe? Cascara sagrada is a stimulant herb, and it is meant to be used short term rather than every day. Follow the label: 2 to 5 capsules on 2 to 3 days a week, for no more than 30 days at a time. Do not use it if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools, or abdominal pain, and do not use it during pregnancy or nursing or give it to children. If you take prescription medication or have a medical condition, talk to your doctor before you start. Can I take it every day? The label starts at 2 to 3 days a week. If results are not observed, the label says to increase frequency to daily, up to a maximum of 30 days at a time.
